ఎప్పుడో ఇరవై ఏళ్ళనాటి ముచ్చట. ఉద్యోగమొకచోట కుటుంబం ఒకచోట ఉండటంతో సింహాద్రి ఎక్స్‌ప్రెస్‌లో ఏలూరు- విజయవాడ మధ్య సీజన్‌ టిక్కెట్‌పై ప్రయాణంచేస్తున్న రోజుల్లో ఒక సాయంత్రం ఏలూరులో జనరల్‌ బోగీ ఎక్కి కూర్చున్నా. రైలు రద్దీగా లేకపోవడంతో సీటు దొరికి రైలు కదులుతుందనగా ముగ్గుబుట్టలా నెరసిన తలపై చిన్నబుట్టతో బోసి నవ్వుల పెద్దమ్మ మా బోగీలో కెక్కింది. బుట్టలో రెండో మూడో కిలోల వేపిన శెనక్కాయలున్నాయి అమ్ముకోడానికి. రూపాయికింత పొట్లాంకట్టి నా ప్రక్కన కూర్చున్న వాళ్ళకు, ఎదురుగా ఉన్నవాళ్ళకు ఇచ్చింది.
పుస్తకంలో తలముంచుకున్న నేను ఇది చూసీ చూడనట్లు కూర్చున్న శెనక్కాయలు కొన్నవాళ్ళు ఒక్కొక్కటే ఒలుచుకొని తినడం మొదలెట్టారు. నా ఎదుటి సీట్లో ఉన్న తల్లి మూడేళ్ళ పసివాడిని ఒళ్ళో కూర్చోబెట్టుకునుంది. ఆ పసివాడు నా పక్కన, ఎదుటకూర్చున్న వాళ్ళు శెనక్కాయలు తింటుంటే వాళ్ళ చేతులవంక నోళ్ళవంక మార్చిమార్చి చూస్తూ, వాళ్ళమ్మని కొనివ్వమని మారాం చేయడం మొదలెట్టాడు. కనీసం అవి కూడా కొనివ్వలేని ఆ తల్లి వాడ్ని సముదాయించడానికి శతవిధాల ప్రయత్నిస్తోంది. శెనక్కాయలు అమ్ముకుంటూనే పెద్దమ్మ క్రీగంట వాడిని గమనిస్తోంది. రైలు నడుస్తోంది; వాడి మారాం ఇంకా ఇంకా ముదురుతోంది. కాసేపటికి ఏదో స్టేషన్‌లో రైలాగింది. శెనక్కాయల బామ్మ ఇంకో బోగీలోకి మారబోతూ ఒక కాగితంలో శెనక్కాయలు చుట్టి చంటోడి చేతిలో పెట్టి బుగ్గలు చిదిమి వాడి ముఖంపై నవ్వలు పూయించి బండి దిగిపోయింది.
ఇదంతా వినోదంగా గమనిస్తున్న నా మట్టిబుర్రకు పసివాడికి శెనక్మాయలు కొనివ్వాలన్న బుద్ధి పుట్టలేదు. అస్సలు అలాంటి ఆలోచనే రాలేదు. ఆ క్షణాన ఆ పెద్దమ్మ ఔన్నత్యం ముందు నేను మరుగుజ్ఞునై పోయా! ఎవరికైనా ఎంతో కొంత సాయపడాలంటే సంపద కాదు కేవలం సంకల్పం ఉంటే చాలని ఎరుక కలిగించిన పేదరాశి పెద్దమ్మకు మనసులోనే నమస్మరించుకున్నా.

A thought provoking blog, I must say. We face similar situations in our life daily. Though there is an intention for us to help the opposite person, we do not proceed as we are not aware of the opposite persons situation and his/her reaction if you offer help.
